#SeeArtDifferently

Dashawn Billups. Long Journey (detail), 2025

$180; members $162
(one-day workshop)

About the Class

This workshop explores the relationship between art and restorative justice, considering the impact of the judicial system on at-risk young adults, the role of art as a creative outlet for those imprisoned, and the lasting effects of incarceration on individuals, communities, and society as a whole. The centerpiece of the workshop is a detailed look at Where I’m From, on view July 5 to August 25 at the Barnes. This special exhibition showcases original art created by emerging artists from Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Rec Crew and artists at the State Correctional Institute (SCI) Phoenix, southeast Pennsylvania’s maximum-security prison for men.

Capacity: 25
